Hi Lisa pretty normal practice for a sizeable job just make sure that you have things in writing and that you both understand the terms get receipts for payments

Lisa... Yes - large works No - maintanence works For example: 1/ a bathroom suite or heating system - Yes 2/ a tap replacement or shower re seal - No I hope this helps! J Ireland Plumber

It is quite normal for a trader to ask for a deposit when carrying out reasonably large contracts to help protect him against losses.Too many bankruptcies have been the result of clients being slow to settle.My own terms are usualy 30/40% deposit upon commencement of work and/or delivery of materials to site Even upon acceptance of these terms by client they are quite often ignored once work is in progress Steve Tuckey T/A Swiftsure
