Central heating pump

Posted by Colin Finlay, on
We had our pump replaced. The other one was noisy but our system worked brilliantly. Now we have scalding hot rads and some that are warmish. some rads dont come on and its always different ones. the boiler cuts out if it gets too hot. there is a toilet flushing sound, towards the bolier, when the hot water finishes its timed cycle toothe engineer said there is air in the system and we just have to wait till it works its way out? is he correct. It's a microbore system. It worked great before, now all sorts of problems. im at my wits end

Hi Colin Did the engineer drain down the system in order to install the new pump or was he able to isolate from the pump valves? Is the new pump a like for like? Is it set to the correct speed for the size of the system? Sludge may have been disturbed if he did a full drain down. Sometimes there is a build up of sludge in the feed & expansion cistern and as the system is drained this ends up running through the pipe work and can cause blockages. It's difficult to assess the situation blindly. It can take a few days to settle itself as this type of system is fantastic left undisturbed but as soon as work is done to them that's when this can go wrong. Might be best if you leave it for a few days and if the problem still persists I would call the engineer back to have a second look. Best of luck. Sam (eps)

I take it you have non pressurised system ? To a degree the plumber is right ,basically your old pump could have fractured and spread into system ,when he changed pump did he drain system ? If he did when filling system you can get air locks and blockages due to fragments or sludge moving round system , hence different rads blocking.

What would you like to do now?
