A thermostat for cooling not heating

Posted by Joe Friday, on
I want to buy a thermostat that clicks 'on' when a certain temp is reached (rather than off) so it can activate a fan in my attic room. What product should I buy?

Ye some thermostats are designed to do just that try this one T6360 Room Thermostat. The T6360 can switch electrical heating loads up to 10A. The T6360 thermostat can also be used for cooling applications. Marcus E3 Electrical

Hello Joe, Most thermostats should be able to provide this option for you whether they're electronic or mechanical thermostats shouldn't make a difference. The deciding factor will be the size of the motor of the fan. Just ensure that the Line(Brown) conductor of the fan is connected to the correct connection in the thermostat. There is normally a Permanent live connection to power the thermostat, then an alternative connection which will only become live once the room has reached a set temperature. If electronic, there will also be a Neutral(Blue) connection. More than happy to advise if you need any help Thanks, Richard Baldwin (Trydanwyr Bright Spark Electricians)
