What are the main features of a fitted kitchen?
While there are plenty of custom or premium features you might consider adding to your kitchen, there’s a fairly standard list of items you’ll need to think about.

The key stages in a kitchen refit

- Planning and design – understanding how to make the best use of the space available, as well as what you want your kitchen to do for you.
- Removal of your old kitchen – carefully and methodically removing old appliances, units, worktops and flooring, before preparing the room for the fitting of the new kitchen.
- Electrics and plumbing – this step may not be necessary if you’re replacing appliances or features in the same locations, but typically even the most minor alterations will require plugs or light fittings to be moved or altered.
- Fitting new units and worktops – units are typically fitted first, followed by your new worktops. They’ll need to be properly secured using appropriate load-bearing fittings, and this is where the value of an expert can be felt. When fitting your new worktop, your tradesperson will also install your sink.
- Tiling or laying a new floor – with your units in place, your floor can be tiled (or wooden floor fitted).

Made a total mess of a small extension. Quoted 2 weeks and after 7 I sacked him off as we were going nowhere. Massive list of his work didn’t comply with building regs and ended up fitting a purlin to roof as he used wrong sized joists. I now have bits of roof hanging off after max 30 mph winds Even managed to cock guttering up so down pipe is nowhere near drains. Roof leaking and I have had to sack him off and pay another load of cash to a set of lads who can do the job. Avoid or he’ll bankrupt you

Hi , I'm Mark, from MS Interiors. I've been working in the building industry for over 35 years! On leaving school ,I went into a bricklaying apprenticeship, but after three English winter's I decided to find a trade indoors so I got a job on the council, working for Woolwich, Bexley, and then Meadway, where I learned all the skills needed to renovate house, fitting kitchens, bathrooms, hanging doors, plastering, etc. Then came contracts with MFI, Wickes, and B&Q, where I stayed for five years and fitted 200 kitchens and bathrooms! I've worked for local kitchen and bathroom companies and have been working independently on my own now for the last three years doing small renovation work, like building rooms in corners of bedrooms to give the client a enuit , decorating, internal wall removal, flooring , building wardrobes/cabinets / madia walls etc , but predominantly bathrooms!! I really couldn't put a figure on how many bathrooms I've fitted in my working life but it would be in the region of 350 , so I do feel confident in my knowledge and skills as a fitter . I pride myself on my tiling, always trying to strive for perfection as this is what the client sees !
